Technique-led training focused on truthful response, active listening, and industry readiness
Borland School of Acting is a contemporary acting studio dedicated to rigorous craft, emotional intelligence, and industry readiness.
We don’t just teach performance. We help actors find their voice, their confidence, and their truth on stage and screen
Founded by Laura Borland, BSA offers serious training in a grounded, supportive environment.
Here, technique meets truth. Ambition meets wellbeing. And talent meets discipline.

Our Approach
At BSA, we believe great acting doesn’t come from forcing yourself into one rigid technique. Every actor is different, and our goal is to help you discover what works best for you.
Our training is rooted in The Gonsalves Method, a practical, psychologically grounded approach that helps actors access truthful, emotionally connected performances while staying present and responsive in the moment. The work focuses on freeing the actor from overthinking, reconnecting to instinct, and allowing authentic behaviour to emerge.
Alongside this foundation, we also explore tools and ideas from a range of respected acting practices. Rather than teaching one 'correct' way to act, we encourage students to experiment, question, and build their own personal acting toolkit.
Throughout the course, students will develop skills in:
-
emotional truth and authenticity;
-
listening and reacting in the moment;
-
script analysis and character exploration;
-
confidence and presence in performance;
-
working instinctively rather than mechanically.
Our aim is simple: to help you become a more confident, connected, and adaptable actor, whether you’re performing on stage, on screen, or in the audition room.
With over a decade of professional experience across theatre, film, and coaching, Laura Borland brings a supportive but challenging environment where actors are encouraged to take risks, grow, and discover their unique voice.

8 Week Foundation Course
The 8 Week Foundation Course at BSA is designed for young people who are curious about acting and want to develop their confidence, creativity, and performance skills in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Across eight weeks, students explore the foundations of acting through practical exercises, improvisation, scene work, and storytelling. The course encourages young actors to trust their instincts, work collaboratively, and develop their ability to listen, respond, and express themselves truthfully.
Our teaching is influenced by The Gonsalves Method, a respected acting approach that focuses on emotional authenticity and natural performance. Alongside this, students are introduced to a range of creative techniques that help them build their own toolkit as performers.
Above all, the course is about helping young actors grow in confidence, develop their imagination, and discover the joy of performance.
Who This Course Is For
The course is offered in two age groups to ensure students are working with others at a similar stage of development:
Ages 10–13
A playful and supportive introduction to acting, focusing on imagination, storytelling, confidence, and teamwork.
Ages 14–18
A more in-depth exploration of acting technique, including character work, emotional truth, and preparing scenes for performance.
Both groups work in a small class setting where every student receives guidance, encouragement, and individual attention.
